Moments | Westmead Hospital Operating Theatres – Staff Corridor

Moments is a response to my experience in the sterile environments of hospitals. In these spaces, I am drawn to the windows, seeking the calmness of trees, the soothing hue of the sky and the ever-changing forms of clouds. This work is influenced by Claude Monet’s expansive work, The Water Lillies at the Musée de l’Orangerie.

Moments is an 88m imagined landscape of flora, water and sky to provide a sense of calm and distraction for patients, staff and visitors, inviting engagement through hidden cloud elements—subtle forms of hospital objects, animals, and glimpses of daily life. I envision this artwork as a source of emotional comfort, accompanying patients as they are wheeled along the corridor. Its fluid reflections evoke the sensation of drifting along a gentle stream, mirroring the sky’s serenity and offering a tranquil escape within the hospital setting.

The Westmead Redevelopment project has transformed the Westmead Health Precinct and has delivered an innovative, integrated facility that will deliver high-quality healthcare for decades to come. The Westmead Operating Theatres Refurbishment is updating eight operating theatres, refurbishing them to better suit the needs of the hospital community. The Westmead Operating Theatres wall graphics commission will contribute to a calming, safe and beautiful environment for improved staff and patient experiences.
